As an example, Shin Imaging uses only 3 Tesla (3T) MRI scanners, which provide 10 times the signal to noise ratio of an Open MRI scanner that are commonly used in other centers. What this means to the patient is a faster scan and higher resolution images which allow for the best possible diagnosis.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic resonance imaging is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to form pictures of the anatomy and the physiological processes of the body in both health and disease. MRI scanners use strong magnetic fields, radio waves, and field gradients to generate images of the inside of the body. Shin Imaging Center exclusively uses 3 Tesla (3T) MRI scanners to provide the best images possible.
Computed Tomography (CT)
A CT scan (often referred to as a CAT scan) makes use of computer-processed combinations of many X-ray images taken from different angles to produce cross-sectional (tomographic) images (virtual “slices”) of specific areas of the body, allowing the physicians to see inside the body without invasive procedures.
Mammography is the process of using low-energy X-rays (usually around 30 kVp) as a diagnostic and screening tool to examine the human breast. The goal of mammography is the early detection of breast cancer, typically through detection of characteristic masses and/or microcalcifications.
Digital radiography is a form of X-ray imaging, where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. Advantages include time efficiency through bypassing chemical processing and the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images. Also, less radiation can be used to produce an image of similar contrast to conventional radiography.
Bone Density (DXA)
Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is a means of measuring bone mineral density (BMD). Two X-ray beams, with different energy levels, are aimed at the patient’s bones. When soft tissue absorption is subtracted out, the BMD can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology.
